What is AMP and benefits for using AMP

Hai guys, It’s been a long time I am not writing on my blogs, the last post it’s eight years ago. Today I want to post about AMP Project and what will your website gain it with AMP. Before that you may have heard about "AMPs" term.

What exactly are Accelerated Mobile Pages ("AMP") ?
The Accelerated Mobile Pages ("AMP") Project is an open source initiative that came out of discussions between publishers and technology companies about the need to improve the entire mobile content ecosystem for everyone -- publishers, consumer platforms, advertisers, creators, and users.
Acoording from wikipedia article, "AMP is an online publishing format, created by Google as a competitor to Facebook's Instant Articles, that is similar to HTML and optimized for mobile web browsing. Using special code, AMP-HTML is intended to help webpages load rapidly when clicked in the Google search results pages, though results have varied. Pages are cached in Google's AMP cache which, Google claims, allows them to be served even more quickly"
In short AMP  is a way to build web pages that are lightweight and speedy to load, particularly on mobile devices. And your visitors doesn’t waste they time to load for a single page or abandons the slow page.

AMP is made of three parts:
  • AMP HTML – Basically HTML, but extended with custom AMP properties and performance top of mind. There is required markup and variations of standard HTML to keep in mind. Metadata is allowed and encouraged.
  • AMP JS – Does not allow any author-written JavaScript, nor any third-party scripts, but there’s still JavaScript under the hood. You can take a look at the AMP JS Library to see the implementation of AMP’s best practices and here for some amp-iframe examples.
  • AMP Cache – A content delivery network (CDN) of validated AMP documents published to the web. If your AMP pages are built properly (and you use this feature), Google will globally cache your pages and serve that content instead of yours.

What are the benefits of Accelerated Mobile Pages?
According from AMP Project"Speed matters and instant is the ideal. Research has shown higher bounce rates associated with slower-loading web pages. Using the AMP format will make it far more compelling for people to consume and engage with more content. But this isn’t just about speed and performance. We also want to promote enhanced distribution so that publishers and advertisers can take advantage of the open web’s potential for their content to appear everywhere quickly -- across platforms and apps -- which can lead to more revenue."
  • Improve the user experience
  • Increase conversion rates due to improved page load speeds
  • With faster load times, users are more likely to continue engaging with your website (quicker sites see lower bounce rates, increased length of time on site and higher conversion rates)
  • The lightning bolt tag displayed alongside results could lead to higher click-through rates as users realise more and more that they correspond to quicker loading speeds
  • Google’s algorithm favours faster pages, therefore better load times could improve your site’s rankings
